POLICY STATEMENT
The mission of the Cove News is to be a source of news and public service to the people of Copperas
Cove, Texas. We are not a large newspaper and do not cater to the world. We make our decisions
regarding what we do and don't publish based solely on our sincere and honest belief that the article
serves the common good and is in the best interest of our home town. We shall never publish an article
for the sake of sensationalism. We shall under no circumstance publish a news article without the
material facts being validated by a member of management. We are Christian folks and as such we
clearly understand that Bill and Georgia Thomas are far from perfect regarding our editorial practice and
decisions or for that matter any other decisions in life. We make one pledge to our readers: While our
decisions may not be perfect they will always be perfectly honest.
News: All news stories will be deemed newsworthy based on their contribution to the good of the
community. Certainly bad news sometimes needs to be printed because the public has a need to know.
However, all to often negative stories that do nothing but harm are printed with the patented excuse that
the public has a right to know. We believe that the public having the right to know does not always
mean its right for the public to know.
Politics: While the Cove News respects many publications who have a standing policy of not
endorsing political candidates, we are not so inclined. We will endorse candidates we believe will best
serve Copperas Cove regardless of their political party affiliation. We certainly welcome letters to the
editor agreeing or disagreeing with our political opinion and/or choices.
Sports: There will be those who accuse us of being bias toward our home town teams. There is no
question that the Cove News stands guilty as charged regarding this accusation. We feel it is part of the
job of a small town paper to back the local kids. We plan to make no effort to be objective. If a Lady
Dawg freshman basketball team gets beat 44-2, expect a story based on the field goal our kids made and
not the 44 points the other guys got. We are planning to try to cover literally every sport, drama, drill
team, UIL academic competition and band event in town. We also plan to heavily cover the University of
Mary Hardin Baylor Crusaders. We consider the little university down the road Cove's local university.
Letters to the Editor: We will always maintain our right to print what we feel is honest and has some
value to the community. We will not print a letter to the editor based on materially incorrect statements.
However, we will never fail to print a letter based on the letter's challenge to the Cove News' political or
editorial views.
